Last week Google rolled out a new design for Gmail’s main login page. Being logged into Gmail throughout, chances are high you may not have noticed this change. Simply log out of your account and try logging in again and you’ll see the refurbished Gmail log-in page. It looks a lot like the log-in page you see if you access Gmail on mobile.
Gmail’s old log-in page which consisted of two columns – left column for promoting their mobile apps and right one functioned as log-in pane have now been combined to one. The log-in pane is now centered and you won’t see any app promotions from Google. Here’s how the new log-in page looks like:
You’ll see the account by which you are logged in currently and after you’ve signed out from it, you can add more Google accounts by clicking the ‘Add account’ button.
At a later point of time if you want to remove any of the accounts you’ve added previously, you can easily do it by hitting the ‘Remove’ button and then clicking on the ‘X’ on the right side of the account you wish to delete and then hit the ‘Done’ button.
Why is the New Log-in Page Annoying?
Though the new log-in page is nice to see, however I don’t feel like using it.
#1 First it remembers all my accounts & displays all the email id’s I use to log in to Gmail. If that’s not enough it even remembers the entire account history. It does ask you to enter the password if you select an account, but in first place why show all the accounts? Well this was more about security, the real annoying part is something else!
#2 It doesn’t remember my passwords! True, you’ve not allowed it to save passwords, but I’m the sole user of my laptop and it’s already very secure! No one has access to my USER account, so why not let me save my password on my browser? But no, Google doesn’t want that! I’ve tried a million times to save my password, but was unable to.
UPDATE: I’m now able to save my passwords. May be they released a new update.
#3 If you often use public computers for accessing Gmail, your Gmail account is at stake since the accounts you log in to get stored on the computer. And if you forget to remove them after signing out from your account, your putting your account on risk. Now, simply signing out from your account is not enough!
And I’m not the only one to not like the new Gmail log-in interface.
The guy who likes it is probably joking 😉
Why This Kolaveri Di?
Did we ask you for this update, Google? All the users except the crazy team behind this update were happy with the previous log-in page. Updates like these killed Yahoo and please Google, I don’t want to stop using Gmail!
How to Get Rid of This Refreshment?
I’ve tried a hundred methods to get my old log-in page back, but practically there’s no way you can get rid of this update unless Google itself decides to roll it back. I’m no sure if they will. Let us know if you hate this update as well! May be Google will listen to us. Please Google!
There is an option to not remember your account, while logging in. I use that when logging on to college PCs (which always have some other ignorant person’s ID listed, lol), although after my session on public computers like those, I simply clear browsing history/cache/sessions shit for that period of time, for the extra measure. :p
